Described as a “movie for your ears” (by Billy Sherwood himself), this all-inclusive, prog rock masterpiece opens with the simply stunning, free flowing, Hammond-led opus ‘Spark’ (which features Sherwood on vocals), and then backs that up seamlessly with the sweepingly gracious ballad ‘Witness the End of the World’ (featuring McBroom), and then the mid-tempo, slowly revealing rock of ‘Another Day’ (again featuring Sherwood).
Up next is, especially being a huge XTC fan, one of my own personal favorites, the lush XTC-esque vocalizations and orchestrations of ‘Goes by Gravity’ (featuring XTC’s Moulding, of course), then comes the title track, the building, euphoric storytelling (a tale of watching a loved one being struck down by dementia) of the title track ‘Giants’ (again featuring Sherwood), with the album rounding out on the acoustic guitar instrumental ‘The Gathering,’ closing o the beautiful, Peter Gabriel-esque ambiance of the magnificent and effervescent ‘The Common Thread’ (featuring Sherwood).
